Ingredients and Recipe Instructions


Steamed Black Cod

0.5 lb black cod steak
1 Tbsp Chinese cooking wine or rice wine
1 Tbsp seafood soy sauce or regular soy sauce
1 Tbsp water
Brown sugar to taste
3 to 5 pieces of ginger, thinly julienned
1 stalk of green onion, chiffonaded


1. Put the black cod steak on a microwavable plate; pour wine over fish.
2. Microwave on high for 1 to 2 minutes.
3. In the meantime, in a small sauce pan heat soy sauce, water, and sugar over high heat. Remove from heat once it has boiled.
4. Remove plate from microwave, discard liquid and run a little cold water over fish.
5. Cover fish steak with a layer of ginger and green onion, and pour sauce over fish.
6. Microwave on high for another minute. Fish is done when it flakes easy.

Note: Don't let the picture scare you; my soy sauce just looks really dark. You can play around with the amount of water, sugar, and soy sauce to suit your taste. Again, fresh fish is the key!
